With a guide

Bison walk

On a quarterly basis guided excursions are offered on weekend days to give the public the chance to see the bison in Kraansvlak. Led by an experienced ranger one goes looking for the bison and plenty of information is provided about the bison project, the dune area and all its inhabitants like konik horse, fallow deer, roe deer, fox and a variety of insects, birds and reptiles.

Photo safari

Besides Bison walks special photography excursions are offered regularly. Ranger and nature photographer Ruud Maaskant has years of experience photographing the bison in Kraansvlak. These excursions are for small groups of up to 5 people.

On the website of the Zuid-Kennemerland National Park, you will find more information about costs and bookings of Bison walks and photo safaris. Excursions are reported per quarter of a year.

Although there is never a hundred percent guarantee that the bison will be spotted seen -they are living in a hilly and over 300 hectares large area- the guide do his / her best to find the animals for you.

Group excursions

Looking for an interesting and exclusive getaway for your company, department, association, friends or family? Then you can book an excursion to the bison with a group of maximum 15 persons. The ranger takes your group into Kraansvlak in which since 2007 a herd of bison lives in the wild. Along the way you will get a additional infromation about these wonderful animals, of which some 4,000 live freely in nature, the majority of them in Eastern Europe (Poland, Ukraine).

These group excursions only take place on Fridays and you can choose between two start times: 10:00 or 14:00. The tour lasts about two hours. The costs vary between € 200 and € 300, depending on the group.

Reservations must be made at least 3 weeks in advance and can be done via the website of Zuid-Kennemerland National Park or by mail to info@np-zuidkennemerland.nl.

Horseback safari

PWN offers, in cooperation with equestrian centre De Baarshoeve, the opportunity to skilled horseback riders to experience an exclusive tour accompanied by a ranger (also on horseback). During this excursion, it is possible to spot bison in Kraansvlak. During the excursion, the ranger tells all about the project, the area where European bison live and the specific flora and fauna to be found in Kraansvlak.

Uniquely, this excursion takes place in an area that is largely closed to the public. We get off track during the tour and partly ride through loose sand. Besides bison, there are also Konik horses, Highland cattle and other herbivores in this area. All these large herbivores can be observed best from horseback while riding at walking pace.
The tour is guided by an experienced ranger of PWN. An instructor of equestrian centre De Baarshoeve also takes part in the safari, to supervise horses' behaviour.
However, certain conditions are required to join this safari. Only experienced riders and horses who regularly ride outside, may participate in this horseback excursion. If it appears that the rider has too little skills, the organization has the right to exclude the rider from participating.
