Bison frequently watched

The extensive check-up of the condition of the bison in March indicated that they were in good shape at the end of the winter period. Now that the winter is lasting longer than usual, it is very important to watch the bison more frequently. Some animals may get into trouble when this weather continues. The grasses need daylight and rising temperatures to start growing again, so fresh lush grasses are not yet available.

A delegation of the bison project came to check up on the animals on March 28th. Fortunately, as expected, the herd was not affected by the cold weather. They used a lot of their fat reserves of course, but their fur is shiny and they are alert. They will be watched closely the coming weeks, to see how their condition is affected by the lasting winter.
