A third wisent calf has been born!
At the beginning of June, another wisent gave birth to a calf. The first days she was separated from the rest of the group, but after a week the young mother and her calf rejoined the rest of the group. These are the first three calves born in the wild in Dutch nature since the species went extinct in Northwest Europe many hundreds of years ago.
Many visitors were present at the time of the discovery of this third calf. And while the young mother and her calf could be seen in the distance, the rest of the herd paid a visit to the viewpoint. The wisent and their calves were perfectly calm and allowed the public a good view.
