Preparations relocating bison bulls

PWN and ARK Nature are currently preparing the relocation of two bison bulls. They will leave the dune area Kraansvlak in the Netherlands and will travel to Spain. There they will contribute to the genetic diversity of other European bison areas. Hopefully, in the near future they will be responsible for many offspring just like their father was, after he was relocated from Poland to Kraansvlak in 2007.

At the end of July the two bulls have been sedated in the dune area in order to move them to a specially fenced area (corral) in Kraansvlak as wild animals are not easy to steer.

The bulls are monitored on a very regular basis during the comings weeks. Also they will be examined as part of the veterinary preparations for a translocation to another country. Blood analyses will take place to be sure of their health status. The preparations are taking place in consultation with the veterinarian responsible for the bison herd. And also by the rangers of PWN that are involved with the regular monitoring of the Kraansvlak bison.
