Positions bison herd temporarily offline
Since the start of the bison project in Kraansvlak in 2007, the bison are equipped with a GPS collar. Data from the collar allows the managers and scientists involved to monitor the animals and the way they use the area. Also public is able to see where the animals are as we made the positions available at this website.
Unfortunately we see quite some people are not taking the clearly outlined visitor rules into account when making use of the Bison Trail. Guidelines are mentioned on this website as well as at the entrances of the Trail. Since the area is a resting place for animals, and in order to not interfere with ongoing monitoring work, we unfortunately had to decide to temporarily take the actual positions of the bison offline. We hope we can count on your understanding and collaboration.
Similar to other years, the Bison Trail will be opened until March 1st. After this date the path temporarily closes due to the bird breeding season. In the meantime, we wish you a very pleasant walk on the Trail!
