Grand opening wisentenpad

The official opening of the wisentenpad took place by Mr. Johan Remkes, provincial governor Noord-Holland, and Mr. Niek Meijer, mayor of Zandvoort on Friday November 9th. About eighty persons were present to enjoy this historic moment. The path runs through the bison terrain providing public a chance to meet the bison in the Kraansvlak on their own.

After unveiling the billboards a walk on a part of the wisentenpad was undertaken, followed by a joint toast. Unfortunately, the herd was not seen so more reason for all attendees to come back soon for a second attempt to admire the animals from the path in the beautiful dunes.

As far as we are aware of, it is unique for Western Europe that public can go unattended but educated via billboards and the Dutch website www.wisenten.nl into an area were bison live. We are very interested in the experiences gained and will inform you on this website.
